The name is the starting point

Ask for the exact medicine name in writing. Ask whether it is an approved medicine, made to order, or labelled only for laboratory research. Made to order is also called compounded.

The US drug agency is called FDA, short for Food and Drug Administration.

FDA has not approved a medicine prepared to order. A pharmacy licence does not change that. FDA guidance checked September 26, 2026.

The clinician and pharmacy are separate checks

The clinician, a health professional, assesses your health and talks through treatment. A pharmacist is the person who prepares or supplies medicine. The pharmacy is the business where that work is done.

Arizona’s Pharmacy Board gives licences to pharmacists and permits to pharmacy businesses. Board law checked October 3, 2026.

Get the name of the person ordering your medicine in full, along with the kind of licence they hold. Ask for the pharmacy’s name too. Look up each through the right board. Keep the records with the written plan.

The headline price needs a second look

The same medicine can have different prices when you pay yourself, use insurance or use a discount offer. The maker’s list price is its published price before discounts, not a promise of what you will pay. Prices checked September 26, 2026.

Ask what the medicine costs, what the visits cost and whether tests cost extra. Then ask what changes after the first bill.

A useful answer can include no treatment

A prescription is the medicine order. Bring the concern rather than a request that has to end in a prescription. Ask what other options fit the problem. A clear explanation is something worth taking home.
